Nancy Zak has been brightening the Ronald McDonald House for nearly 15 years.
For nearly 15 years, Nancy Zak has been bringing joy and smiles to the families, volunteers and staff at the Ronald McDonald House.
Nancy first got involved with RMHC St. Louis when she started volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House on Park Avenue. During her time at the Park Avenue House, Nancy helped welcome new and returning families to the House, always ensuring that families felt comfortable and at “home.”
In 2010, the West County Ronald McDonald House opened and was in need of volunteers. Nancy was one of the first people to step up and help. With her experience at Park Avenue in tow, Nancy made the move to the West County Ronald McDonald House where she continues to volunteer every other Thursday.
During each of her volunteer shifts, Nancy helps in a variety of ways. Whether it’s welcoming a family to the House, setting up rooms for incoming families or helping to keep the House clean and comfortable, Nancy always goes above and beyond to make the West County Ronald McDonald House the best home-away-from-home for families.
“I enjoy the people at the Ronald McDonald House and being able to help out,” says Nancy. “There’s always something you can do for someone else,” she says.
In addition to the work Nancy does for Ronald McDonald House families, she also goes the extra mile to help the RMHC staff and volunteers. In fact, Nancy says one of her favorite things about volunteering is getting to know her fellow volunteers and the RMHC staff.
“They are always keeping a smile on my face,” says Nancy of the RMHC volunteers and staff. “You can’t find a nicer group of people,” she says.
The RMHC St. Louis staff feels the same way about Nancy, saying she is the one who brightens everyone’s day.
“Nancy does so much around the House,” says Alison Kaspar, Director, Human Resources, “simply her presence at the House always brightens everyone’s day,” she says.
At Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis, we couldn’t be more grateful for Nancy’s hard work and dedication to the RMHC mission. Her passion and personality truly help make our House feel like “home.”
