A fourth St. Louis-area Ronald McDonald Family Room will open in the new St. Louis Children’s Hospital tower in late Summer or early Fall 2017.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is an oasis within the hospital – a place where both local and out-of-town families of pediatric inpatients can rest and feel rejuvenated, just steps away from their child’s hospital room.
Currently, there are three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in the St. Louis area, which are located inside Mercy Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. These Rooms provide comfort and care to both local and out-of-town families whose children are receiving inpatient medical care at the three hospitals. Open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 365 days a year and staffed by more than 300 volunteers, the Family Rooms offer laundry facilities, showers, a small kitchen with complimentary coffee and snacks, TV, Internet, a quiet room and more. In total, the three Family Rooms serve approximately 12,000 families every year, with more than 60,000 visits annually. “We are excited to expand our partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to serve thousands more families every year through an additional Ronald McDonald Family Room,” says Dan Harbaugh, RMHC St. Louis President. “This growth is possible because of the incredible support we receive from the St. Louis community and beyond.”
The existing Ronald McDonald Family Room inside St. Louis Children’s Hospital, which opened in 2007 and celebrates its 10-year anniversary in June 2017, will remain in operation. RMHC St. Louis is currently recruiting new volunteers to fill open shifts inside both St. Louis Children’s Hospital Family Rooms.
